ARE you unhappy with your appearance? Would you like to have the muscular body of a star athlete or the lean figure of a top model? Do you take sports seriously and want to improve your strength and speed?
Many would say ‘yes’ to the questions just mentioned.
What about you?
With the Superbowl just around the corner many men feel they need to bulk up. Without muscle and strength many men feel:
- women just won’t find them attractive
- they themselves are worthless.
Women wanting the chance to be famous are on the increase. Models and celebrities seem to set an incredibly difficult standard for the everyday woman. This can leave a woman:
- feeling unattractive
- unhappy in their own body.
Steroids, in many forms are used by actors and athletes around the word to improve their physical strength and muscle formation.
A report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regarding anabolic steroids says it’s the “the familiar name for synthetic substances related to the male sex hormones (androgens). They promote the growth of skeletal muscle (anabolic effects) and the development of male sexual characteristics.”
Originally, they were intended to help fight off the wasting away of the body caused by HIV and other diseases. By the 1950s however, the black market introduced them to athletes for their boosting performing properties.
Should we be worried?
In Merseyside and Cheshire in 2003,” says the New Statesman, “the largest single group of new clients for needle exchanges were steroid users, outnumbering heroin users for the first time.” Why the increase?
Think about it. Steroids are nearly always associated with winning. and being successful. Who doesn’t want to be that?
People have the view that winning isn’t everything. It’s the only thing!
Many men don’t feel happy with their image. You have actors like Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel etc. who promote bigger is better. The sad fact of the matter is that men would take steroids to hide their self-doubt under muscle, even if their health was at risk!
What are some of the risks?
Consider the following facts:
- increases the risk of heart attack,
- liver failure,
- kidney failure,
- serious psychiatric problems.
- sudden bouts of anger
Females who take steroids risk:
- menstrual abnormalities,
- increased growth of body hair,
- male-pattern baldness,
- a permanently deepened voice.
Males who take steroids may:
- develop breasts
- their testicles start to atrophy.
And, ironically, steroids can stunt growth if taken during adolescence.
What can we conclude?
We all have one body and one mind. If we change ourselves and even run the risk of permanently damaging our bodies and mind, where will we go for help? If were unhappy with the way we look then possibly our associations are the problem. If that’s the case, make new friends who value you for who you are, not for what you look like.
Enjoy sports and movies, but don’t go as far as to allow the often airbrushed images of famous people rob you of self-worth.
The world is like a Christmas cracker. It’s shiny and glamorous on the outside, but on the in its nothing but a cheap toy; disappointing and worthless.
Love who you are and people will follow suit!
